Closer to the Finale

closer to the finale

As I move closer to the finale of this story, I’ve realized something I didn’t expect: endings have their own architecture. They aren’t simply the last pages of a book—they’re the convergence of every choice, every consequence, every quiet turn that happened along the way. And as I stand at this threshold, I’m discovering that the story is beginning to shape itself in ways my outline never fully predicted.

Jack’s path has always carried a certain gravity. Even with my blueprints laid out, he keeps tugging the narrative toward places I didn’t anticipate. The questions I raised in yesterday’s Facebook post—how he’ll accomplish his task, how he’ll protect those he loves, whether Morgaine’s persistence will bend the journey—those questions aren’t just plot points. They’re structural stress lines. They reveal where the story is tightening, where the emotional weight is gathering, where the final act is preparing to unfold.

I used to believe an outline was a map. Now I see it’s more of a compass. The remaining forty four scenes aren’t a checklist—they’re a lattice of possibilities. Each scene carries its own momentum, its own logic, its own emotional truth. And sometimes the most surprising turns aren’t deviations at all, but the natural result of everything that came before.

As I write toward the end, I’m watching the characters step into their final shapes. Kendra’s resilience, Kyneos’ quiet depth, Scott’s loyalty, Morgaine’s interference—each of them is pulling threads toward the same point of convergence. I don’t yet know exactly where Jack will land, but I can feel the story narrowing, focusing, aligning. Endings aren’t written; they’re revealed. And I’m walking toward that revelation one scene at a time.
